Theodore, located on the Dawson River, is a town in Queensland. The town is named Theodore after the Labor politician Ted Theodore, who was the Premier of Queensland and treasurer of Australia in the ministry of James Scullin. Theodore extends 56 km north west of Brisbane, is located off the Leichhardt Highway. Theodore is located at the coal rich Bowen basin and is very closely linked with coal mining. The population of Theodore was 453 in 2001. Theodore is present within the Banana Shire local government area. It was stated by Urban legend that Walter Burley Graffin designed The Theodore but this is not true. One of the greatest example of Burley Griffin's design is the hoge roundabout which is located in the centre of town. Theodore extends 105 km south west of Biloela, is located on the Dawson River. The roads are palm-lined and looks very impressive and spectacular. The local tale states that Walter Burley designed the town. The palms and the bushes which were planted in late 1920s, differentiates it from other valley. Theodore Folk Museum comprises of many photographspresenting 100 years of history, artefacts and agricultural memorabilia. It was found that there exist about 70% copper as well as silver and traces of gold. Within twenty years the mine comprises of the richest known concentration of copper in the world. Cracow is a small rural village located in the south east. In 1930s it had produced lashings of gold from its Dawn and Golden Mile. A small grain and cotton town in the Dawson River Valley, Theodore was named for union leader, Queensland Premier and Federal Treasurer Edward (Red Ted) Theodore. The highest grade of ore was largely depleted in 1930. the mine produces 4.625 million tons of ore averaging 13 percent of copper. Theodore is named to honour former Queensland premier Mr EH Theodore. It comprises of palm lined roads which looks very spectacular. The town looks like a street plan of Canberra. In 1920s, Walter burley Griffin designed Theodore before he designed Canberra, the capital of Australia. A large number of irrigation and agricultural industries are located in this town. It also comprises of many popular spots which attract the tourists. They include the Dawson river weir, rose’s garden, Junction Park, Genmoral Gorge. In 19th century bullock wagons were used on flagged roads.
