Below are some of the jobs that typically do not require previous experience and are way to enter the industry.

 

Drilling offsider
 A drilling offsider is a job that normally requires no previous experience in mining however has the important responsibility of making sure that operations run smoothly for the actual driller on the mine site.  The duties of a drilling offsider also include maintaining machinery and vehicles around the mining site, as well as keeping the site orderly.  Drilling offsider's assist with “daily pre start checks.”   All facets of this job require a good level of physical fitness and be able to complete physical work in extreme heat.. 


Sample preparer
Sample preparers have the responsibility of working in labs which examine minerals and soil.   Employees normally receive hands on training.  Individuals with good mathematical and computer skills have an advantage. This particular no experience mining job is a beneficial means of gaining experience to become a field assistant in the future.

 
Survey assistant
A survey assistant position, another no experience mining job, involves helping the surveyor on a mine site who are normally hired to survey exploration drilling holes.   Assistants have the task of clearing particular areas to ensure the accuracy of surveys.  An assistant also has the duty of assembling and dismantling necessary equipment when surveying is complete. Also assist with setting the equipment ready for the survey to be carried out. You will often need a Manual drivers licence. 


Geologist assistant
When working as a geologist assistant, employees take soil samples and assisting the assigned geologist with other duties.  Assistants collect data from samples and input information into computer systems and assist with the writing of reports.  Such activities are in preparation for future mining or current mining activities. Pre-start checks of transport maybe required, cooking and cleaning, ordering new stock can also be part of the required duties. They are often employed directly from the mining companies and also a large majority are employed through employment agencies.


Cleaning jobs
No experience mining jobs include cleaning, maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of areas within the mining camp and admin areas of the associated mining companies.  Employees, on the site of a mine, normally take fly in and fly out positions and accommodation is provided.    Various positions are fly in fly out while others require employees to find accommodations prior to being hired for a position. Often a manual car licence is required and some sort of previous experience in a professional setting is also extremely beneficial to have.


Kitchen jobs
Kitchen jobs normally involve working in food preparation areas, in the mining camps large mess hall or cafeteria style dining hall.  Employees in this particular position must have a good understanding of cleanliness and hygiene necessary, in a large dining area.  Some employers require individuals attempting to gain a kitchen job to have a food handler’s certificate. Can either be FIFO, DIDO or residential position. 

Catering jobs/ Kitchen hand

Catering typically involves working in the large dining halls of mining camps and following the orders of the head chef or the catering supervisor. The duties can vary during the day from cleaning tables down, dishwashing, and food preparation.
