Mining activity is prevalent throughout Australia with reserves rich in metals and precious stones across the country’s vast regions.  Australia is one of the largest mining countries in the world, and the majority of exports and economic growth rely on the mining industry.  Hundreds of mines dot regions all over the country, making mining jobs in Australia a popular employment alternative for job seekers.

So high is the need to continue mining activity, at its current rate, mining has an overall shortage of necessary labour to continue at the present demand.  Numbers of employees needed to continue at this pace will more than double available positions, in the region, over the coming decade.  Varieties of mining jobs in Australia are available and will double in the coming decade.

Mining of all types require skilled and semi skilled technical personnel in electrical, construction, and technological fields, as well as individuals skilled in scientific areas like geology.  Apprentice programs are also a popular means of gaining experience in skilled areas.   In addition, a variety of mining jobs in Australia are involved in the day to day operations of mining camps which require less specific skills however require large numbers of employees.
Western Australia holds the majority of mining jobs in Australia.  The Pilbara region is known as having the richest supply of iron in the world and will continue to supply the needed resource to, its largest customer, China.  Open pit mining requires enormous operations, keeping momentum extracting iron ore, removing it from its open pit, and processing the natural resource to transport it from the isolated region. Pilbara regions, Karratha and Port Hedland are two such large producers of iron.  Additional mining in the Pilbara region consists of other natural resources like oil, gold, gas, zinc, and copper.
Western Australia is also home to one of Australia’s most famous mines, Kalgoorlie.  East of Perth, Australia, Kalgoorie is known as the largest open pit gold mine in the world.  The majority of gold from the mine supplies areas of Europe and Asia.  Gold fills the need of a variety of uses outside of simply making jewelry, in the manufacturing of technological products.  Again, demand stimulates the need for employees capable of mining jobs in Australia, to meet the demand of gold worldwide.
Mining jobs in Australia are prevalent in Western Australia however are not isolated to the region.  Another of Australia’s large mining operations is Olympic Dam, located in southern Australia.  Olympic Dam supplies copper, silver, and uranium north of Adelaide.  Reserves will be accessed over the next several decades, and the area holds the largest amount of uranium in the world.
Coal is another of Australia’s many natural resources.  Mines are located throughout the country however are many along the countries eastern coastline including Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria hold Australia’s coal mines, as well as the interior of the eastern side of the country.  The majority of the areas coal mines export its product to overseas locations creating further mining jobs in Australia.
