MARCSTA is the Mining and Resource Contractors Safety Training Association, which is a non-profit industry organization, which developed the MARCSTA General Safety Induction, MARCSTA Underground Induction and MARCSTA Refresher and Reaccreditation Course.

Before starting work in the Mining Industry, a MARCSTA General Safety Induction is beneficial to protect workmates and employer. It is required by approximately 70% of contractor companies and mining site operations.

The Association is comprised of member companies contracting or providing services to the mining and associated industries.

MARCSTA is established in 1996 to provide a quality comprehensive safety and health induction program for organizations contracting into the mining industry, the Association is now a fully fledged Registered Training Organization offering a wide range of occupational health and safety training programs, OHS consulting services and compliance auditing.

As MARCSTA is a nonprofit organization it is able to offer low cost quality services to both the mining sector and industry in general.

As the induction is endorsed by industry, one can rely on the level of knowledge about rules and regulations, risks, hazards and work systems. Training is provided only by MARCSTA Licensed Providers who must comply with the strict delivery and assessment standards.

As mining (including open pit, drilling and mineral exploration activities) may expose workers to hazards, remote locations and harsh environments, it is better to ensure that every person on a site, regardless of their role or experience, is informed about hazards, risks and safe work practices.

This one-day induction ensures that every worker can understand and comply with Mining Acts and Regulations, company rules and safe work practices on site. An induction ensures that employees and employers understand their roles and responsibilities and it is a legal requirement under most Mines Safety and/or Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations.

The validity of MARCSTA General Safety Induction is 2 years and one will need to attend the half-day MARCSTA Refresher and Reaccreditation Course after this.

MARCSTA's strengths are its industry driven base with all members of its Committee of Management directly involved in day-to-day operations, its ability to identify and service industry needs and its non-profit structure.

It has a dedicated and capable team of licensed training providers. It has no overt weaknesses but its overall standing with industry and its responsiveness to industry's needs must be closely monitored by its Management Committee to ensure that both these factors are given the highest priority.
