Since most of the mining companies operate from remote locations, they prefer employing people as FIFO. This practice is more prominent in the mining sites of Western Australia, where most of the employees are based in Perth and commute to work by plane.
One of the primary components of an employee salary working on the FIFO jobs is commuting allowance. They are also eligible for six weeks of annual paid leave. The work shifts of FIFO employees are generally longer, about 12-hours. FIFO employees are provided with all transport, meals and accommodation while they are at mine site. Usually the employees work for 14 days at site and then they are provided 7 days leave. Some of the roles require working on a 9 day shift and is then followed by a 5 days leave.

Housekeeping facilities are also provided to the employees.
