Various jobs are available at mines. These jobs range from a welder, truck driver and to a supervisory role. Almost all of the jobs are at site of the mines. A few jobs like the administrative ones are at the corporate office, which is usually at an urban center. Almost all mines are located at remote places. Thus, almost all of the mining jobs require relocation to the mine site or opt for a fly-in fly-out, drive-in drive-out work culture. Fitters, heavy vehicle mechanics, plant mechanics, sheet metal worker, grader operators, scraper, field assistants and truck drivers are some of the jobs available in mining industry.
The main job function of fitters is the maintenance, repair and manufacture of metal products and machinery. Maintenance and testing of heavy vehicles and engines are done by a heavy vehicle mechanics/fitters. The primary job responsibility of a plant mechanics is to ensure that the machinery used in the mines operates efficiently and safely. A light fabrication sheet metal worker is responsible for the manufacturing of products and components made using thin metal sheets. A variety of hand and power tools are used by sheet metal workers to mark, cut, shape and join a variety of sheet metal materials, such as mild steel, galvanised steel, aluminium, stainless steel, brass and copper.
The spreading and leveling of materials on the mine site are done by a grader. Grader operators are required by the mining companies to ensure a safe operation of graders. Scrapers are responsible for the safe and efficient pick up, haul, deposit and leveling of Earth on mine sites.
