Cleaning companies and contractors in Australia, more particularly in Western Australia, are witnessing a record attrition in their cleaning staff as they cannot match or compete with the salaries and perks of the booming mining industry in Western Australia.

The demand for unskilled labour for mining cleaning jobs is so high that the The Building Service Contractors Association and the Mining industry in Australia have urged the Australian Government to permit the recruitment of unskilled overseas labour for cleaning jobs in the mines. To prevent the human resources from being lured for cleaning jobs in the mines, lot of cleaning companies in cities like Perth & elsewhere offer a fat joining bonus of upto $A1000 along with company sponsored transportation to from the unskilled labour from jumping ship.

FIFO Cleaning Jobs WA

In the mining belt of Western Australia, particularly in Olympic dam, Karratha, Port Hedland, Mt Isa and Kalgoorlie hundreds of cleaning jobs in mines are open for unskilled individuals. A lot of cleaning contractors are offering a nice pay package that ranges from $50,000 to $95,000 along with perks like insurance and health care. Cleaning jobs in mines can be on part time/permanent basis with more than 30+ hours of assured work every week. Weekend offs and special compensation for weekend work are an added bonus. Most of the cleaning work will be unsupervised and a neat bonus in the range of $A1000 to $A2000 are paid for stellar performance.

Providing cleaning services in the mines as and when required is the primary responsibility of the cleaning crew. In a normal work day a cleaning job in the mine might include cleaning offices, accommodation units, cleaning and mopping the cafeteria between meals, disinfecting with cleaning chemicals, and cleaning crib rooms and toilets, general cleaning of laboratory floor & hand basins, replenish dispensers, removal of general waste to designated area. The work would be in shifts of 8 to 12 hours and might be scheduled in day time or night time.

Fly in Fly out Cleaning jobs

Cleaning jobs in the mines have a wide range of options for the workers employed in the mines of Australia. The mining industry in Australia provides full time, part time or Fly in/Fly Out (FIFO) contracts for the cleaning jobs in the mines. The FIFO position is a valuable proposition for unskilled workers from all parts of the country as they can fly in to Western Australia, work for 8 to 10 days in a stretch and then fly back home for a few days off. They can fly back once their off is over to take up the job again. Although is it finiancelly better if you find a FIFO cleaning job in the state that you reside on.

An unskilled individual stands a better chance in getting hired by the mining industry in Australia if he/she has the requisite cleaning experience (which in most cases is one to two years), a valid driver’s license, ability to work weekends and long hours or has worked in a mine or a remote location before. Initiative, attention to detail, time management skills and the adherence to safety norms will make the cleaning job in the mine more easier.
