As there are a large number of mines located all over Australia, there is a huge need for truck drivers. A truck driver is primarily responsible for transporting mine materials from loading area to the storage space. The type of material that a truck driver is required to transport depends on the type of mine that driver is employed with. The secondary tasks of a driver include securing the load to the truck, keeping the load weight in load limits, and maintain accurate records.
There are many kinds of trucks that are employed at mines. However, the most common of all is the articulated dump truck. Articulated dump truck differs from the semi trailer trucks by its dump box that is attached with a hinge to the cab permanently. That is, the dump box is not separable from the cab as in the case of a semi trailer truck. Almost all articulated dump trucks are steered with the help of hydraulic rams that are pivoted to the entire cab instead of a rack and pinion steering the front axle. Articulated dump trucks are used in mining industry as they are very much adaptable to the rough terrain and can travel on uneven surfaces for longer distances without any troubles and failures.
